I have just bought a video card 4 me pc (G-force 2) iam running xp and mandrake 7.1 i have it working ok on xp but everytime i boot into mandrake it comes up with a blue screen saying do u want 2 config the card....
I go ahead 2 config it then it just crashes like the screen goes blank 4 a sec then comes up with the colours all scrambled...
Iam a newbie 2 the linux world so if some one could help me it would be great.

The thing you could do with the Nvidia Card and running Mandrake 7.1 would be:

Goto Nvidia's website and get a driver update (be careful to get the one for Xfree86 and not xorg - because xorg hasn't been implented into Mandrake at this time) Unless, however, you want to get the new xorg 7.2rc3 going, then by all means...get the new Nvidia driver.

But, if you don't plan on doing anything but getting your video card going without any significant changes to the system. Download the xfree driver, then open a terminal session and su into root priv's, then type init 1. Now, install the nvidia driver. Once the driver is installed and you are back to the prompt, type init 5 (to boot into x session automatically with user account) then type:

shutdown -r now <enter>

That will reboot the computer, and you should boot back up into mandrake with a nice little nvidia splash screen, and you should be good to go.

I am trying to set up the above card,I have installed Fedora core 2 with the card installed yet it does not detect it.

When I try to add a new network card the list of cards does not include the belkin one yet it is supported under Linux from what I've read but there doesn't seem to much information on how to do it.

Anybody got any ideas or tips?

Are you sure that's the correct model number for the card.

i just installed SuSE 8.2 and everything is configured my video card,sound card , monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.......
but when i go test my speakers nothing is heard can someone help me w/ this problem. everything is connected properly.
one more thing when i configure my desk top as far as font size and screen resolution, as soon as i log off and then log on again they go back to default. can someone explain to me how to fix this????

You might just find a sound driver for your card. If it is a VIA AC'97 based
controller, these drivers SHOULD install without a problem.



The default volume level is very low on SuSe, assuming you have the correct drivers, turn up the volume in SuSe and turn your speakers up a bit

Can i get a modem that works with windwos to work on linux by getting the driver for it or something like that? if i can where would i be able to get the driver

ofcourse u can,....if its a proper modem as in its a "hardware" based modem
and not those winmodems,...
but if u have a winmodem, u ccould try www.linmodems.org for the driver.

if its hardware, u an get it to work right away
